Frequently asked chiropractic questions
1. Are chiropractic adjustments safe?
Yes. Chiropractic has an excellent safety record. It is the result of chiropractic's holistic and natural approach that makes it so safe and helps millions of satisfied patients avoid harmful drugs or unnecessary surgery.
2. What is an Adjustment?
Chiropractic adjustments are delivered to reposition the bones (primarily but not exclusively the vertebrae) and their joints that are out of proper alignment, or "subluxated." There are various techniques used to adjust the vertebrae. Depending on the patient's age and condition, any of these techniques may be used. The purpose of the adjustment is to remove any interference to the nervous system, which improves spinal function and overall health. Chiropractic adjustments are safe for all ages and are completely natural.
3. Can patients with arthritis receive chiropractic care?
Patients who suffer from the various forms of arthritis may experience significant results from chiropractic. Depending on the patient, results will vary but most will experience some level of significant relief. By keeping joints moving freely, the stiffness and pain associated with arthritis can often be minimized. Studies show that those who enjoy chiropractic from a younger age reduce their risk of osteoarthritis later in life.
4. Can infants and children receive spinal adjustments?
Even today's natural childbirth methods can cause spinal trauma. Studies suggest that infantile colic, ear infections, or erratic sleeping habits can be signs of spinal distress. Pediatric adjustments are gentle, safe, and offer the drugless alternative that many parents prefer. Pediatricians commonly refer to chiropractors for a natural approach for infant and childhood health problems.
5. Can a person with previous neck or back surgery see a chiropractor?
Chiropractic care may prevent first surgeries and sometimes "repeat" surgeries when the first is less than effective. Chiropractic treatments can be safely delivered to any part of the spine as well as the pelvis. These adjustments will be delivered away from the surgical area and are thus quite safe and still effective.
6. Will I need X-rays?
In order to properly diagnose a patient's condition and ensure that chiropractic adjustments will be safe, some patients will be referred for x-rays and sometimes MRI, before commencing care or during the course of care. In the majority of cases after a full initial interview and evaluation, x-rays are not needed. You will be referred only to ensure your safety and to rule out more serious possible conditions which may be better served by a medical practitioner.
7. How much do visits cost?
Our initial visit takes longer than ongoing or occasional adjustment visits and the cost for that is ₪280. All treatment visits after that are ₪180. Most new patients are seen for a series of visits over a number of weeks and many patients opt to continue care on a less frequent basis to maintain the goals they've achieved during the initial series of visits. For that reason we do offer a package of 10 visits for ₪1600.
8. My medical doctor doesn't like chiropractors. Why not?
Most chiropractors are quite likable and that certainly includes Dr. Weiser.
OK, serious question, serious answer.
In the earliest days of chiropractic (at turn of the previous century), there were still separate fields called surgeons, pharmacists, medics, naturopaths, homeopaths, osteopaths, chiropractors and more. At a certain point in history, medicine incorporated surgery and pharmacy and set out to deliberately destroy the others claiming them to be quacks and charlatans. It was proven in the 1970's that this was motivated solely by a desire to destroy their competition and not necessarily in the public interest. The attempt to destroy the competition from the Osteopathic profession continued until the late 1950s. It was then that the Osteopaths began to model themselves as more naturally minded versions of medical doctors. Except for the chiropractors, most of the rest went somewhat underground and are now known as "alternative" or "complimentary". In the 1970's the chiropractors uncovered a gigantic conspiracy being perpetrated by the AMA to "Contain and Eliminate" specifically the profession of chiropractic by forbidding any association between medical doctors and chiropractors and by maligning the chiropractic profession in every imaginable way. At that point the chiropractors had enough and thus began a 14-year lawsuit that included two trials that ended when the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal by the AMA. At that point the AMA was made to expose itself and communicate what it had done both to the public and to their doctors. There are some fascinating books written about this David vs. Goliath trial and the triumph of chiropractic in righting this wrong. It is currently believed that the entire opioid addiction crisis the world is currently facing could have been avoided if not for the AMA's vile attempt to destroy its competition. Unfortunately the smudge continues to exist even until today although there has been tremendous change in the medical world's opinion of and willingness to work with chiropractors over the past three decades. As one observer of the trial and its aftermath quipped, the medical opinion of chiropractic is changing at the speed of one death at a time. The old guard is dying out, the new is replacing it and the world will only benefit from the new relationships being forged between two great, life-saving professions.
8. How do I get started and what is a typical visit like?
Before your visit, you will receive an email or text link which will take you to our intake form. You can also click above on our "Register" page and fill out our intake form right there. At your first visit Dr. Weiser will take a full history, answer all of your questions and determine together with you if commencing with an examination will be your next step. During your examination (you will remain fully dressed at all times and so wearing loose fitting clothes is recommended) Dr. Weiser will further determine if chiropractic treatment is appropriate for you. Once treatment commences, the typical visit will be both similar and, at times, different each time. Why different? Because you and your health picture are changing all of the time. Every visit will include a chiropractic evaluation of your spine and the appropriate spinal adjustments will be made according to what is found that day. A typical visit takes 15 minutes which includes approximately ten minutes of treatment time and is completed when your body is as balanced and free of nerve flow interference as achievable that day. Your healthcare experience will be a complete one each and every time.
